While a number of previous studies have evaluated the impact of the introduction of Kaizen on management practices and business performance, few studies have assessed its impacts on working conditions, wages, and employment, especially in the long term. By collecting firm-level data, we were able to conduct a retrospective study on the impacts of the Kaizen project - a project implemented in eight countries in the Central America and the Caribbean Region by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Ninety-four firms were selected to take part in the project based on their willingness to adopt Kaizen management practices. Using the same criteria, we selected 182 comparable firms in the same industries and countries to make up the comparison group. Employing propensity score matching methods, this study found that the introduction of Kaizen improved working conditions and strengthened the social capital of workers. The willingness of managers to pay for Kaizen training increased after the training was completed, which suggests that it had a positive effect´ on the firm’s performance. We also found that managers and workers perceive the usefulness of Kaizen differently, which may lead to suggestions on ways to improve the design of future training programs.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.18884/00000924","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"JICA Rsearch Institute"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Shimada, Go","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"1296","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Sonobe, Tetsushi","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"1297","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2018-06-06"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"JICA-RI_WP_No.173.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.0 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"JICA-RI_WP_No.173","url":"https://jicari.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/934/files/JICA-RI_WP_No.173.pdf"},"version_id":"dd49d0a5-370d-44bd-a98c-fdc45c0e8024"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Management training","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Impact evaluation","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Willingness to pay","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Small and medium enterprises","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Central America and the Caribbean Region","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Management training","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Impact evaluation","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Willingness to pay","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Small and medium enterprises","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Central America and the Caribbean Region","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Impacts of Kaizen Management on Workers: Evidence from Central America and the Caribbean Region","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Impacts of Kaizen Management on Workers: Evidence from Central America and the Caribbean Region"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"18","path":["583","665"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2018-06-06"},"publish_date":"2018-06-06","publish_status":"0","recid":"934","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Impacts of Kaizen Management on Workers: Evidence from Central America and the Caribbean Region"],"weko_creator_id":"18","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T13:11:16.498558+00:00"}
