Existing studies show that paid work could empower vulnerable people, such as women, \nby expanding their opportunities and the lifestyles to which they have access. However, \ninterrelationships between economic (e.g. income) and non-economic (e.g. empowerment) \nbenefits are not as straightforward as the literature on inclusive business suggests.\nThis paper explores the case of a development project in the Kyrgyz Republic supported \nby the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with a Japanese retail and \nmanufacturing corporation. The felt business upon which they collaborated eventually involved\nhundreds of women (producers) in villages scattered around Lake Issyk-Kul. This study analyses \ninterviews with local stakeholders, especially felt producers and their families, and reveals both\nthe economic and non-economic effects of the business and their impacts on producers, families, \nand communities at large. Paid work allows producers to contribute to their household economy, \nwhich, in turn, enhances their self-respect. In contrast, the data also show that women’s decisions \nto participate in the business depended on their individual circumstances, such as the availability \nof family support and particularly the understanding of their husbands. The paper suggests that \nthe application of business approaches to development has both potential benefits and limitations, \nsince the creation and maintenance of choices and empowerment for women are affected by the \nintricate relationships between the economic and non-economic aspects of their lives.\n","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.18884/00001063","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Shimoda , Yukimi","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"1606","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2022-04-28"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"JICA_Ogata_WP_No231.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"788.0 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"JICA_Ogata_WP_No231","url":"https://jicari.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1086/files/JICA_Ogata_WP_No231.pdf"},"version_id":"58a6f7b6-3ad5-496c-a8f0-6e9fd971f5a4"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"inclusive business","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"women","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"choice","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"empowerment","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"capability","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Kyrgyzstan","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"inclusive business","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"women","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"choice","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"empowerment","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"capability","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Kyrgyzstan","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Unpacking the Influence of Business Approaches to Development on the Expansion of Women’s Choices and Empowerment: A Case Study of a Handicraft Business in the Kyrgyz Republic","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Unpacking the Influence of Business Approaches to Development on the Expansion of Women’s Choices and Empowerment: A Case Study of a Handicraft Business in the Kyrgyz Republic"},{"subitem_title":"Unpacking the Influence of Business Approaches to Development on the Expansion of Women’s Choices and Empowerment: A Case Study of a Handicraft Business in the Kyrgyz Republic","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"18","path":["674"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2022-04-28"},"publish_date":"2022-04-28","publish_status":"0","recid":"1086","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Unpacking the Influence of Business Approaches to Development on the Expansion of Women’s Choices and Empowerment: A Case Study of a Handicraft Business in the Kyrgyz Republic"],"weko_creator_id":"18","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T13:00:51.892094+00:00"}
