In this paper, we analyze the effects of the Delhi Metro on the work participation\nrate of women and men, using a three-period (1991, 2001, and 2011) panel data of townshiplevel\nzones within the city of Delhi. While the data has limitations in understanding the\ncharacteristics of individual residents in detail, we employ a difference-in-differences\nestimation controlling for a location fixed-effect, with a parallel trend test. The results\nsuggest that the proximity to the Delhi Metro stations significantly increases the female\nwork participation rate (WPR), whereas its effect on the male WPR is ambiguous with the\npotential to have an opposite sign. While there are number of potential mechanisms that\ncan deliver this result, we develop a theoretical urban commuting model and argue that a\nlarger reduction in the commuting cost for females (by offering a safer commuting mode of\ntransportation, for example) can generate the quantified patterns of the effects on the WPR.\nOverall, our results relate to the literature on the quantification of the contribution of urban\ntransport infrastructure towards inclusive growth and poverty reduction.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.18884/00001026","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"JICA Research Institute"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Seki, Mai","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"1520","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Yamada, Eiji","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"1521","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-03-23"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"JICA-RI_WP_No.207.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"6.5 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"JICA-RI_WP_No.207","url":"https://jicari.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1046/files/JICA-RI_WP_No.207.pdf"},"version_id":"11316a84-737b-489e-a586-0797f4b8ddcf"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"India","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"gender gap","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"equilibrium commuting model","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"India","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"gender gap","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"equilibrium commuting model","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Heterogeneous Effects of Urban Public Transportation on Employment by Gender: Evidence from the Delhi Metro","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Heterogeneous Effects of Urban Public Transportation on Employment by Gender: Evidence from the Delhi Metro"},{"subitem_title":"Heterogeneous Effects of Urban Public Transportation on Employment by Gender: Evidence from the Delhi Metro","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"18","path":["585","692"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2020-03-23"},"publish_date":"2020-03-23","publish_status":"0","recid":"1046","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Heterogeneous Effects of Urban Public Transportation on Employment by Gender: Evidence from the Delhi Metro"],"weko_creator_id":"18","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T13:03:56.017744+00:00"}
